DAILIES TOTAL1, ACUVUE OASYS daily lenses, PRECISION1 and INFUSE all have supporters on Reddit. The useful details are what wearers liked, what went wrong, and how those experiences can help you discuss a better fit with your eye doctor.
Contacts that feel fine in the morning can become scratchy, distracting or blurry by the afternoon. Search Reddit for advice and you’ll find plenty of people describing that exact problem, along with enthusiastic recommendations for the lenses that helped them. Across the discussions we reviewed, five names kept coming up: DAILIES TOTAL1, ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day with HydraLuxe, ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day, PRECISION1 and Bausch + Lomb INFUSE. Each has positive reports and disappointing experiences. Some users also do well with MyDay, Proclear or monthly lenses.R1, R9, R11, R19, R28
Which contacts does Reddit recommend for dry eyes?
These are the main options that emerged from our survey. All five are daily disposables; references to an astigmatism version are identified separately in the sections below.
| Contact lens | What users liked | Where experiences differed |
|---|---|---|
| DAILIES TOTAL1 | Comfort after other lenses disappointed; a less noticeable feel. | Some preferred another lens for dryness, fit or stable vision.R1, R13, R34 |
| OASYS 1-Day with HydraLuxe | Long-term comfort, including favorable astigmatism reports. | Other wearers described later dryness or switched away.R1, R7 |
| OASYS MAX 1-Day | Comfort during computer work and after trying other daily lenses. | Some found little improvement over regular OASYS daily.R9, R3 |
| PRECISION1 | Comfort and a steadier fit for some people who disliked TOTAL1. | Removal difficulty and late-day irritation appeared in several accounts.R34, R33, R36 |
| INFUSE | Comfort improvements after OASYS, TOTAL1 or Biotrue. | Dryness still occurred; some toric wearers disliked lens movement.R13, R14, R11, R10 |
Dailies Total1
DAILIES TOTAL1 earns repeated mentions in dry-eye discussions. In one broad recommendation thread, wearers described it as a lens they could tolerate after developing problems with other brands. In another, a wearer who struggled with OASYS HydraLuxe reported a much better experience after trying TOTAL1, although their eyes still felt dry afterward.R1, R8
The exceptions are useful. One longtime INFUSE wearer switched to TOTAL1 on their eye doctor’s recommendation, then found it became uncomfortable after a few hours. Elsewhere, users preferred PRECISION1 because TOTAL1 seemed to move more when they blinked.R13, R34
VisionPros’ take: TOTAL1 is a reasonable lens to discuss when comfort has been difficult to achieve. Alcon’s water-gradient design uses a silicone hydrogel core with a much higher water content at the surface. That helps explain its design approach, but a highly hydrated surface does not guarantee that the lens will fit or feel right on every eye.H7
During a trial, pay attention to both comfort and clear vision later in the day. If you need a toric lens for astigmatism, look specifically at experiences with that version. A glowing review of the standard spherical lens cannot tell you how the toric version will behave on your eyes.
Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe
OASYS 1-Day with HydraLuxe has loyal users. A commenter in a dry-eye recommendation thread wrote:
“I have dry eyes and have been wearing the Acuvue Oasys Hydraluxe dailies for a year and they’ve been fantastic.”
Reddit, r/contactsThe same discussion includes later dryness complaints and a wearer who preferred PRECISION1 after years in HydraLuxe. Another thread follows an astigmatism wearer whose OASYS dailies sometimes felt dry or became blurry, while a TOTAL1 trial worked better.R1, R7
VisionPros’ take: First, check the full product name. ACUVUE OASYS two-week lenses, OASYS 1-Day with HydraLuxe and OASYS MAX 1-Day are different products. A comment that simply says “OASYS” may not describe the lens you are researching.
HydraLuxe is the tear-inspired design used in this daily lens.H8 The favorable experiences make it a sensible option to raise at a fitting, but the conflicting reports are a reason to trial it in your usual routine.
Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day
MAX attracts enthusiastic recommendations from some people who spend long hours at a computer. In a thread comparing MAX, HydraLuxe and TOTAL1, one commenter described comfortable computer work after switching to MAX. Another had tried several daily lenses and preferred MAX’s comfort and fit.R9
That thread also contains a less enthusiastic assessment:
“I think my eyes are a bit dryer with max but I can’t say for sure.”
Reddit, r/contactsElsewhere, a wearer was still looking for alternatives because MAX caused dryness. Another described an uncomfortable short trial and difficulty removing one lens.R3, R4
VisionPros’ take: MAX deserves consideration, but the extra features are not a promise that it will suit you better than HydraLuxe. Johnson & Johnson describes TearStable Technology as a way to distribute the wetting agent through the lens and its surface, supporting tear-film stability and reducing evaporation. MAX also has an OptiBlue light filter; that feature should not be confused with a treatment for dry-eye disease.H9
If you already do well in HydraLuxe, a supervised comparison is more useful than assuming you need to upgrade.
Precision1
PRECISION1 is worth a close look because some users prefer it to lenses positioned above it. In a direct comparison, commenters said it stayed in place better than TOTAL1. One also described good comfort for much of the day followed by grittiness in the evening.R34
A separate thread titled “I thought contacts were not for me until I tried Alcon Precision 1’s” contains several favorable experiences. There is a revealing follow-up, though: the original poster later said they had switched to TOTAL1 and needed drops less. Another participant liked PRECISION1 in one eye but struggled with its fit in the other.R35
Handling deserves attention too. In a discussion about PRECISION1 for astigmatism, users described liking the daytime feel while struggling to remove the lenses. One later preferred INFUSE for end-of-day comfort and removal.R33
VisionPros’ take: Judge PRECISION1 on how it works for you, including handling. Alcon uses SMARTSURFACE Technology to create a water-rich layer at the lens surface.H7 The Reddit reports give readers a reason to ask about it even when another daily lens has been presented as the obvious choice.
If removal is repeatedly difficult, ask your eye care team to check the fit and watch your technique. Do not keep struggling with a painful or stuck lens just because it felt comfortable earlier.
Bausch + Lomb Infuse
INFUSE deserves a place in this comparison. In one thread, a wearer reported more dryness after moving from INFUSE to TOTAL1. In another, a person who tried Biotrue ONEday after wearing INFUSE preferred INFUSE’s longer comfort and clearer nighttime vision.R13, R14
A detailed INFUSE for Astigmatism post describes better comfort after OASYS 1-Day, while noting a personal issue with vision stability after using artificial tears before insertion. Follow-up comments include other favorable experiences, alongside a wearer who improved but still needed to remove the lenses by the end of the day.R16
The disagreement is especially clear in an INFUSE-versus-OASYS toric thread. The original poster found INFUSE more mobile; a respondent opened with:
“I am asking myself the same question but the opposite.”
Reddit, r/contactsThat respondent preferred INFUSE and reported needing drops less frequently. Other threads describe dryness even with INFUSE.R11, R10, R12
VisionPros’ take: INFUSE is a credible trial option to discuss when another daily lens has disappointed. Bausch + Lomb describes its ProBalance Technology as designed to help minimize contact lens dryness.H10 Assess comfort and visual stability together, especially with the astigmatism version. An improvement in one area is not a reason to accept persistent problems in another.
What about MyDay and Proclear?
MyDay receives mixed reports. In a thread focused on dryness, some wearers described later discomfort while others said they had worn MyDay comfortably for years. A MyDay Toric wearer in another discussion liked its stability but experienced discomfort after several hours.R19, R22
That makes MyDay another option to discuss, rather than a lens to dismiss because a complaint thread appears in search results.
Proclear has particularly loyal users. One longtime Proclear 1 Day wearer preferred its feel to a MAX trial despite liking MAX’s clear vision. Another discussion includes people who preferred Proclear to Biofinity.R28, R30
Proclear 1 Day uses a hydrogel material and PC Technology designed to attract and bind water.H11 Its supporters illustrate why a newer lens does not automatically feel better. Keep the exact Proclear product in mind, though: daily, monthly and specialty versions should not be treated as interchangeable.
Which monthly contacts come up for dry eyes?
Biofinity, Bausch + Lomb ULTRA and TOTAL30 appear in monthly-lens discussions. Biofinity Toric has supporters who prefer it to ULTRA for comfort, fit and clear vision. Yet other Biofinity wearers describe dryness and irritation, including with toric and toric multifocal lenses.R37, R39, R38
TOTAL30 also gets contrasting feedback. A longtime TOTAL1 wearer reported that a TOTAL30 trial felt good initially but became uncomfortable after several days. A reply suggested VITA, but did not establish that it solved the poster’s problem.R6
VisionPros’ take: Discuss monthly lenses in the context of your prescription, budget and care routine. A daily disposable gives you a fresh lens for each use, while reusable lenses add cleaning, storage and care-system compatibility to the decision.H3, H6
For some people, sensitivity to preservatives in a care solution may contribute to problems. A peroxide-based system can be an option to discuss with your eye doctor, but it must be fully neutralized in the correct case for the time specified on the label. Unneutralized peroxide must never go directly into your eye.H6
No lens schedule guarantees comfort. Daily disposables avoid the reusable-lens cleaning routine and provide a fresh lens for each use, but this review includes people who still experienced dryness in dailies. A daily disposable should be used once and discarded as directed.H3R10, R3
What changes if you also have astigmatism?
Look for experiences with the toric version of a lens. A contact can feel comfortable while its movement makes vision inconsistent.
The reviewed threads describe this trade-off repeatedly. One wearer found MyDay Toric stable but less comfortable over time, while OASYS toric dailies did not provide the same stability for them. In the INFUSE-versus-OASYS discussion, wearers disagreed about which lens gave them the better balance.R22, R11
Your trial should answer two questions: does the lens stay comfortable, and does your vision stay clear through normal blinking and activity? Tell your optometrist about both. Avoid choosing a lens from its brand reputation alone, and have the office check which options are available for your current cylinder and axis prescription.
Why does the same lens work for one person and fail for another?
“Dry eyes” can describe different problems. Your eyes may produce too few tears, your tears may evaporate too quickly, or the tear film may not work properly. Screen use and environmental conditions can also aggravate symptoms.H1
Lens fit, wear time and the condition of the eye’s surface matter too. Someone who reports success after switching contacts may also have started treatment, changed a care solution or reduced wearing time. Reddit rarely lets us separate those effects.H13R1, R2
Material specifications cannot settle the choice on their own. A 2024 Cochrane review summary found insufficient evidence to recommend silicone hydrogel over hydrogel lenses overall based on comfort and safety. That does not mean all materials behave identically; it means “newer material” is too simple a rule for choosing your lens.H5
The practical lesson is to compare actual performance during a fitting and trial. Bring notes about when discomfort begins, whether vision changes, and how your eyes feel after removal.
What about the Acuvue packaging complaints?
Some Reddit users connect worsening comfort with ACUVUE’s packaging change. Their experiences deserve attention, but the proposed explanation is unproven.R1, R16
ACUVUE’s US FAQ says the packaging changes were cosmetic and that the lenses, packaging materials and packing solution did not change.H12 A change in comfort is a reason to contact your eye care professional and, where appropriate, the manufacturer. It is not enough to establish that a formula changed.
What should you ask your eye doctor before switching?
Bring the exact name of your current lens and explain what you want to improve. “My contacts become blurry and scratchy after three hours at a computer” gives the office more useful information than “Reddit says this brand is better.”
Ask whether your symptoms suggest a fit problem, a care-system issue, dry-eye disease or another cause. If a different lens is appropriate, ask for a trial and a follow-up assessment before committing to a large supply. US contact lens fitting can involve more than one appointment while your prescriber checks comfort, vision and fit.H4
During the trial, note when symptoms begin, whether one eye is worse, whether vision fluctuates and whether removal is difficult. Use only drops appropriate for your lenses, following the product instructions and your eye doctor’s advice.
Remove your lenses and call your eye doctor immediately if you develop eye pain, unusual redness, light sensitivity, sudden blurry vision or discharge. Those symptoms should not be treated as ordinary dryness to push through.H2
You generally need your prescriber’s approval to change to a different lens. Matching power does not establish the correct fit. The FTC describes a narrow exception for identical lenses sold under different brand or private-label names; it is not permission to substitute an unrelated product.H4
Ask for an assessment of the underlying problem instead of continuing to buy different brands. Your clinician may recommend a break from soft contacts while treating your eyes. Some people with more complex dry-eye problems may be assessed for specialist lenses, such as scleral lenses.H13
Once your eye care professional has confirmed a comfortable fit and finalized your prescription, choose the prescribed product. Take the time to establish what works before buying a large supply.
