Ask Reddit for the best contacts for astigmatism and you’ll find plenty of recommendations. You will also find people who loved the comfort of a lens but could never keep their vision clear, and others who tried the same lens and finally stopped struggling.
That’s what makes this question different from choosing contacts for dry eyes. Comfort is paramount, but so does whether your vision stays sharp when you blink, look at a screen, or move your eyes.
After reviewing the discussions, our VisionPros shortlist starts with Biofinity toric for monthly wear and ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day for Astigmatism, MyDay toric, PRECISION1 for Astigmatism, and DAILIES TOTAL1 for Astigmatism among daily disposables. Each has supporters and meaningful counterexamples. INFUSE deserves attention, too, even though we do not sell it.
The Reddit shortlist at a glance
These are starting points for a conversation with your optometrist. The categories reflect our reading of the discussions, not a Reddit vote or a clinical ranking.
| Contact lens | Replacement | Why it makes the shortlist | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biofinity toric | Monthly | A practical monthly starting point with reports of steady vision | Some wearers report dryness or an unsettled fit |
| ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day for Astigmatism | Daily | A recurring choice for clarity and comfort | Other users describe evening dryness or blur |
| MyDay toric | Daily | A daily alternative worth discussing if Biofinity suits you | Comfort and stability do not transfer automatically between lenses |
| PRECISION1 for Astigmatism | Daily | Several useful reports of better focus than other toric dailies | Removal and late-day comfort divide opinion |
| DAILIES TOTAL1 for Astigmatism | Daily | Comfort gets enthusiastic praise from some wearers | Others describe vision fluctuating with lens movement |
| INFUSE for Astigmatism | Daily | A worthwhile alternative when dryness complicates the search | Reports of movement and lens awareness alongside positive experiences |
| Biofinity XR toric | Monthly | Extended prescription options when standard ranges fall short | XR describes the range, not a comfort upgrade |
How we reviewed the Reddit discussions
We screened 60 distinct Reddit threads and retained 32 relevant discussions, chiefly from r/contacts, for this review. We read accessible posts, comments, and follow-ups on 19 retained threads; the other 13 were available through indexed excerpts. We prioritized explicit toric experiences and comparisons between lenses.
This is a qualitative review, not an exhaustive crawl or a representative survey. Repeat commenters do not represent separate endorsements, and upvotes do not establish clinical performance. We kept spherical and multifocal experiences separate wherever the lens type was identifiable. Product details were checked against manufacturer information. Research checked October 15, 2026.
Why a comfortable toric lens can still give you blurry vision
Toric contacts have different focusing powers in different orientations. Their position on the eye is important as the correction needs to line up appropriately with your astigmatism. Manufacturers use different designs to help lenses settle and stay oriented.[18]
That explains why “I cannot feel these lenses” and “I can see clearly in these lenses” are separate pieces of feedback. A lens can feel comfortable while your vision fluctuates. Another may give you steadier vision but feel dry before the day is over.
Reddit users often describe this as rotation or movement. Their descriptions are useful, but they cannot establish the cause of blur. Your optometrist needs to check the fit, prescription, and eye surface. Do not assume every blurry moment means the lens has rotated.
Biofinity toric is a sensible monthly starting point
Biofinity toric appears in both broad recommendation threads and direct comparisons. Supporters describe clear vision, a lens that stays centered, and comfort that makes them reluctant to switch.
In one comparison with Bausch + Lomb ULTRA, a wearer said Biofinity gave them a better fit and crisper vision. In a broader toric discussion, another commenter liked both Biofinity and MyDay but preferred the monthly lens for comfort.[1,3]
The opposite experience is there, too. A longtime ULTRA wearer found Biofinity distracting and unstable. Another wearer with a strong plus prescription described dryness and cloudiness. Those accounts matter just as much as the enthusiastic recommendations.[2,4]
Our take: Biofinity toric belongs on a monthly trial shortlist, especially if reusable lenses fit your routine. Its appeal is the combination of prescription options and positive everyday experiences, rather than any promise that it will stay comfortable on every eye. If you already wear it successfully, a newer lens needs to solve a specific problem to justify changing.
ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day for Astigmatism has a loyal following
OASYS 1-Day comes up repeatedly as a lens people compare everything else against. One wearer searching for a less expensive daily said other lenses became uncomfortable late in the day, while their OASYS daily lenses had worked well for years.[5]
Other discussions include praise for clear, stable vision. But there are also reports of dryness and evening blur, including from people who ultimately preferred another daily. The recurring positive feedback makes it worth trying; the conflicting experiences make a trial necessary.[1,6]
Be careful with the product name when reading Reddit. ACUVUE OASYS for Astigmatism, the two-week replacement lens, is a separate product. One detailed review praised that version after several unsuccessful trials, while another thread described discomfort with it. Neither account should be quietly counted as a review of OASYS 1-Day.[7]
Our take: the daily version is a useful candidate when steady vision and comfort are your priorities. If it works well, compare the cost of your actual prescribed supply before switching. If it does not, its popularity is no reason to tolerate a poor result.
MyDay toric deserves a place on the daily shortlist
MyDay toric has some particularly useful head-to-head comparisons with DAILIES TOTAL1. In one thread, a wearer liked TOTAL1’s hydration but experienced blurring after blinking; they reported that MyDay had not caused the same problem.[8]
Another comparison captured how preferences can change. The original poster initially weighed MyDay’s dryness against TOTAL1’s comfort and movement, then later wrote: “I went with Total1 but wish I went with MyDay.”[9]
That does not make MyDay the automatic winner. A separate wearer tried both and eventually preferred TOTAL1 for hydration. Other users reported good initial comfort with MyDay followed by dryness, or said its stability did not suit them.[9,10]
CooperVision uses its Optimized Toric Lens Geometry design in both Biofinity toric and MyDay toric. That makes MyDay a reasonable daily option to discuss if you like Biofinity, but it does not make the two lenses interchangeable.[19]
Our take: pay attention to MyDay if your current daily feels comfortable but your vision keeps fluctuating. Judge it through your normal day, including the hours when dryness usually becomes noticeable.
PRECISION1 for Astigmatism stands out in stability comparisons
PRECISION1 gets useful praise from people who tried several toric dailies and found it easier to keep their vision in focus. In a TOTAL1-versus-PRECISION1 discussion, a commenter specifically identified astigmatism and said PRECISION1 stayed in focus more reliably than TOTAL1 or INFUSE.[11]
A separate discussion about unstable toric lenses described a similar progression: OASYS 1-Day was acceptable, TOTAL1 was unstable for that wearer, and PRECISION1 worked much better.[10]
There are limits to that enthusiasm. Some people describe difficult removal or late-day dryness. In a lengthy daily-lens discussion, the original poster eventually settled on PRECISION1 but later said they still wore glasses almost all the time because glasses were easier and more comfortable. That is a qualified outcome, not an uncomplicated success story.[5,6,12]
Our take: PRECISION1 is worth discussing when another toric daily feels good but does not deliver dependable focus. Ask for help with handling during the fitting, too. Clear vision is only part of a successful trial if getting the lenses out is a struggle.
DAILIES TOTAL1 for Astigmatism earns praise for comfort
Some of the most enthusiastic comfort comments in the reviewed threads concern DAILIES TOTAL1. Wearers describe a hydrated feel and prefer it after trying other daily lenses. Alcon’s water-gradient design is intended to create a highly wettable lens surface.[9,13,20]
The recurring qualification is stability. Several wearers describe comfortable lenses paired with intermittent blur or movement after blinking. In one multi-brand discussion, the original poster found TOTAL1 the most comfortable option but struggled with consistent vision.[1,8]
Yet it would be misleading to turn those complaints into a verdict that TOTAL1 cannot be stable. A later comparison involving OASYS MAX included an update from the original poster: TOTAL1 had become more stable for them, and they ultimately preferred it for comfort.[14]
Our take: TOTAL1 is a strong trial candidate when comfort is the missing piece. Give your optometrist specific feedback about any blur rather than accepting it as the price of a comfortable lens. A higher price or a more sophisticated surface technology does not settle the question of fit.
ULTRA and TOTAL30 give monthly wearers more options
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Astigmatism has both satisfied long-term wearers and people who preferred Biofinity. One monthly-lens thread described roughly two years of successful ULTRA wear; a different comparison favored Biofinity for fit, clarity, and comfort.[2,3]
TOTAL30 for Astigmatism also produces contrasting accounts. One wearer reported that it worked when Biofinity did not. Others described fluctuating focus, discomfort, or a better experience after switching to a daily lens.[15]
Our take: both are legitimate monthly alternatives to discuss. A daily lens and a monthly lens from the same manufacturer need their own trials; liking TOTAL1 does not tell you how TOTAL30 will feel. With any reusable option, follow the prescribed cleaning and replacement schedule and report whether comfort changes as the lens approaches replacement day.
INFUSE for Astigmatism belongs in the conversation
We do not sell INFUSE, but leaving it out would leave out useful firsthand experiences.
Some wearers switching from OASYS 1-Day describe better comfort and less need for rewetting drops. Another detailed daily-lens comparison ended with the original poster choosing INFUSE after reporting stable vision during training and easier removal.[6,16]
The contrasting reports are just as specific. One wearer found INFUSE moved more than their OASYS daily lenses; another could constantly feel the lens during a trial. A positive review also described episodes of unstable vision.[16]
Our take: INFUSE for Astigmatism is a daily disposable worth asking about when dryness and toric stability are both concerns. Reports of improved comfort are encouraging personal experiences, not evidence that it treats dry eye disease or will outperform your current lens.[21]
Newer options include OASYS MAX and PRECISION7
Older Reddit discussions can become outdated on availability. ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for Astigmatism and PRECISION7 for Astigmatism are now documented products, so older comments saying there is no toric version should not guide your shortlist. MAX is a daily disposable; PRECISION7 uses a weekly replacement schedule.[22,23]
MAX’s toric version receives positive comments about clarity and comfort, alongside accounts of discomfort and preferences for other lenses. We also found follow-ups that changed the initial impression, including the wearer who eventually chose TOTAL1 instead.[14]
PRECISION7 has similarly contrasting comparisons. One thread described sharper, steadier vision than TOTAL30. Another longtime OASYS wearer reported slower settling, fluctuating clarity, and more dryness with PRECISION7.[17]
Our take: both deserve consideration when your optometrist thinks they suit your eyes. Their newer status does not make them automatic upgrades.
For higher prescriptions, start with the available range
If your prescription falls outside a standard toric range, availability becomes the first filter. Biofinity XR toric expands the prescription combinations available beyond standard Biofinity toric, including higher cylinder powers.[19]
One Reddit thread asked whether XR was a better version of the standard lens. The useful distinction is that XR means extended range. It is not a premium comfort tier to select instead of your prescribed lens.[24]
Wearer experiences still vary. One XR user reported a successful early trial, including mountain biking, while another described good comfort in the eye wearing standard Biofinity and problems in the eye wearing XR. Different eyes and prescriptions make that an individual fitting issue, not a controlled comparison of the products.[24]
Our take: ask which lenses accommodate your exact prescription before comparing brand reputations. For high or irregular astigmatism, your clinician may also discuss custom soft lenses, rigid gas-permeable lenses, or scleral lenses rather than another standard soft toric.[25]
Turn the shortlist into a better contact lens trial
The most useful thing to take from Reddit is a clearer description of what you need. “These contacts are bad” gives your optometrist much less to work with than “my right eye blurs after blinking, even though the lens feels comfortable.”
Ask for a manageable comparison based on your prescription and current problem, then keep a few notes during the trial:
- How quickly does vision become clear after insertion, and does it stay clear?
- Does blur happen after blinking, when looking in a particular direction, or later in the day?
- Does one eye behave differently from the other?
- How do the lenses feel during screen work and by your usual removal time?
- Can you insert and remove them comfortably using the technique you were taught?
- For reusable lenses, does the experience change during the replacement cycle?
Check everyday situations safely. If your vision is unreliable, do not use driving as a way to test whether you can manage it. Bring the details back to your fitting appointment.
Compare costs only after you know which lenses work. Look at the supply needed for both eyes and include cleaning supplies for reusable lenses. A lower box price can be misleading when pack sizes and replacement schedules differ.
Remove your contacts if you develop pain, redness, light sensitivity, discharge, or sudden blurry vision, and contact your eye care professional promptly. Keep lenses away from water, discard daily disposables after use, and follow the wear and care instructions for your prescribed lens.[26]
Once the fitting is complete, buy the lens on your finalized prescription. Switching to a different lens generally requires your prescriber’s approval.[27] The best Reddit recommendation is the one that helps you ask a better question at that appointment. The lens worth buying is the one that gives you clear, comfortable vision in your own trial.
